How Chint Solar Saves 2,000 Engineering Hours a Year With Glint Solar

Chint Solar is a European solar developer with more than 500 MWp of completed projects. Facing a heavy pre-permit evaluation workload split between engineering and outsourced teams, they moved site evaluation onto Glint Solar. The result: 2,000 engineering hours saved a year and faster expansion into new markets.

Chint Solar has completed more than 500 MWp of solar projects since starting European operations in 2016, working with investors, landowners, and local communities across multiple countries. Since adopting Glint Solar, the company's use of the platform has tripled, and its engineering team has reclaimed a projected 2,000 hours a year that used to go to early-stage site evaluation.

The Challenge

Before Glint Solar, Chint Solar's engineering team spent 60 to 70% of its time evaluating pre-permit stage projects. That workload was heavy on its own, and it got heavier as the company's pipeline grew across multiple countries.

To manage the volume, Chint Solar built internal tools and outsourced some engineering work to external providers. Neither held up well at scale. Outsourcing added cost and depended on the availability of outside engineers, and internal tools couldn't keep pace with the complexity of the design process.

Two more problems compounded the workload. Technical site-evaluation expertise sat almost entirely with the engineering team, with no easy way to hand basic evaluation work to non-technical business teams. And the GIS data needed to assess a site lived across a scattering of separate tools and geoportals, so every evaluation meant reassembling data before the analysis could even start.

Chint Solar evaluated a number of tools built for utility-scale solar development before choosing Glint Solar. What set it apart was direct alignment with what the team needed: the ability for both engineers and business teams to evaluate and design sites without routing everything through an already stretched engineering team.

The Solution

Glint Solar gave Chint Solar's global project verification process a single place to work from, consolidating GIS data layers that had previously been scattered across separate tools. The interface was simple enough that evaluation stopped being an engineering-only task, and more employees across the business started evaluating sites themselves.

With map-based filtering, Chint Solar could assess site buildability against environmental regulations and soil quality directly in the platform. Preliminary design tools got teams to accurate project layouts fast, and centralized technical data cut the back-and-forth that used to slow decisions down.

Detailed project evaluation reports and 3D visualization gave the team a clearer way to bring investors, landowners, and other stakeholders into the conversation early.

"Glint Solar is saving us a foreseeable 2,000 engineering hours per year. We now redirect that time to critical later-stage tasks, reducing costs and driving growth."

— Deniz Urla, Head of Engineering and Design, Europe at Chint Solar

The Results

Chint Solar's use of Glint Solar has tripled since 2023.

2,000 engineering hours saved a year

Eliminating outsourced engineering work and cutting down on design iterations gave Chint Solar back a projected 2,000 engineering hours a year, time it now spends on later-stage project work instead of early screening.

Faster decisions on land

With site data and design tools in one place, Chint Solar cut the time it takes to decide whether a piece of land is worth pursuing, moving projects into development faster.

New market expansion

Chint Solar's project portfolio grew, particularly in Italy and France, where easier access to site data made it faster to get new pipeline off the ground.

About Chint Solar

Chint Solar develops, finances, builds, and operates solar parks across Europe, where it has been active since 2016. With more than 500 MWp of completed projects, the company works with investors, landowners, and local communities to bring clean energy to more places.
